OVERALL OBJECTIVE AND PURPOSE
The Senior Technical Designer oversees the technical design function within the design team, guiding the implementation of gameplay systems and tools built in Unreal Engine 5. This role blends creative vision with deep technical expertise to ensure that gameplay mechanics, systems, and tools are performant, intuitive, and consistent across the project.

RESPONSIBLITIES
- Architect and maintain complex gameplay systems using Unreal Engine 5 Blueprints and C++ extensions
- Define technical design standards, documentation practices, and scripting conventions for the team
- Develop modular, scalable systems that empower designers to create gameplay content efficiently
- Partner with engineering to define pipelines, performance budgets, and feature feasibility for UE5 systems (Nanite, Lumen, World Partition, MetaSounds, Control Rig)
- Work cross-functionally with art and animation to ensure seamless integration of gameplay features
- Troubleshoot and profile gameplay performance to maintain stability and responsiveness across platforms
- Drive technical innovation within the design department, exploring new tools and workflows to enhance iteration speed
- Review and provide feedback on technical design work, ensuring alignment with project goals and performance requirements
- Represent the technical design perspective in milestone planning and production discussions
REQUIREMENTS
- 7+ years of professional experience in game design or technical design, including at least one shipped title on PC or console
- Expert-level knowledge of Unreal Engine 5 Blueprints and gameplay scripting and network replication
- Strong understanding of UE5’s ecosystem, including World Partition, Data Layers, Nanite, Lumen, Control Rig, and MetaSounds
- Proven experience designing and optimizing large-scale gameplay systems
- Ability to mentor others, review work, and provide constructive technical feedback
- Excellent cross-discipline communication and documentation skills
- Strong understanding of performance optimization, memory management, and debugging tools within UE5
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS – NICE TO HAVE
- Post-secondary education in Computer Graphics, Fine Arts, Game Art & Design or equivalent education
- Programming background
- Experience developing tools, systems, or pipelines that support level design or gameplay teams
- Previous experience with multiplayer
- Gameplay balance and tuning
- Modding or prototyping experience demonstrating creative technical problem-solving
We are open to candidates at Intermediate to Senior levels depending on experience. Intermediate: 4+ years, Senior: 7+ years, Lead: 10+ years. Compensation will be based on experience and skill level.
